Basics of Vibration Response

Damped and undamped free transient vibrations of single degree-of-freedom systems. Forced response to harmonic, periodic non-harmonic, impulse and random dynamic forces. Definition of types of damping. Calculation of damping ratio using log-dec method. Definition of stiffness and mass. Introduction to natural frequencies and mode shapes.

Digital Signal Analysis

The effect of Sampling, Sample Rate & Anti-Aliasing on the resolution of the FFT and TWF (time waveform). The effect of data conditioning windows (Hanning, Flat Top and Uniform) on the FFT and correction of amplitude and frequency from bin location. Frequency Analysis, RMS calculation, Beats, Orders, Nonsynchronous Frequencies, Sidebands, AM & FM Modulation. Phase Measurement and Analysis.

Basic Rotor Dynamics

Critical speed calculation for rotors on rigid and flexible supporting systems. The effects of support & rotor stiffness asymmetry, gyroscopic effects, centrifugal stress stiffening, and Lomakin effect (pump rotors) on critical speeds. Rotor response on resilient mounts. Orbit analysis and subsynchronous stability of rotors on oil-film bearings. Nyquist and Bodé plots.

Review of Balancing of Rotating Equipment

Mass Unbalance, Force, Single Plane Balancing, Critical Speeds, Trial Weights, Pitfalls, Vector Method, Balance Sensitivity, Phase Lag, One Shot Method, Weight Addition, Weight Removal, Weight Splitting. Single Plane Balancing by Influence Coefficients.

Basic of Vibration Control

Natural frequency tuning techniques to reduce vibration of structures and rotors. Theory and application of tuned Dynamic Vibration Absorbers (DVA) and Tuned Mass Dampers (TMD). Using multiple degree-of-freedom equations to design DVAs and TMDs. Theory of dynamic force Isolation, advantages and disadvantages of different isolator types, stability requirements for isolation systems, decoupling of isolated systems from support system. Load capacity and load distribution requirements.

Multi-Channel Analysis

Dual-Channel basics and test methods, transfer functions, frequency response functions (FRF), and coherence. Real and imaginary displays of the FRF. Basics of Impact Testing to determine natural frequencies. Damping measurement and calculation from multi-channel data including half-power, real or imaginary plots, and slope of phase shift.

The cancellation of and transfer to a training course and certification exam will be honored, provided that written notification is received by the Institute office via e-mail or mail no later than ten (10) business days before the first day of the scheduled course.

Our cancellation fees are as follows:

Transfer to another training course (and certification exam, if applicable): $0

Cancellation without transfer to another course (and certification exam, if applicable) 10 or more days before first date of course: 10% of course (and exam, if applicable) cost.

Cancellation less than 10 days of first date of course (and certification exam, if applicable): 20% of course (and exam, if applicable) cost.

Absentees for the course will not receive a refund. This cancellation policy supersedes all prior published information.
